Spring is here...you need new music ☀️
Time for more music, people! We’ll keep it straightforward this time: a new w33kly, a guest playlist, and a featured DJ mix all linked below! As usual, there’s a little context for some of the selections and contributors in this month’s round-up. Just in case you stumbled on this post from the outside, you can also stumble into subscribing with the button below 👇🏾
As Spring starts to set in here in NY, most of us are getting outside a little more and seeing our calendars fill up again with fun plans. I personally don’t think I’ve heard the “song of the summer” yet, not even out of the numerous diss records this month blessed us with (what dirt does Taylor have on Kendrick, the streets need to know). Maybe we can expect to start hearing contenders on the radio and in the clubs soon, but until then…

w33kly 17
Jesediah - “Proper”
A longtime friend of AMF, Jesediah is a talented songwriter and singer/rapper with a deep bag of musical strengths. This track reminds me of his quintessential sound I liked so much when I was just getting to know Jes, while showing off the growth in songwriting and artistry that come with focused work and great collaborators. Real ones will noticed this was produced by the one and only Mista Bradley.
Stevedreez - “MOONLIGHT”
Steve did a show with mal sounds in Brooklyn once, and since then I’ve been a proper fan. I met him after a great performance and was looking forward to digging into his music, then later realized he’d already been on my vacation playlist the previous year. That type of full-circle moment is one of my favorite parts of AMF so far. Since then he’s been a regular on w33kly and the vacation rotation 😎
Kinfolk Thugs - “Dumptruck”
I definitely don’t know these guys, but this song is in here as a sign of the times. It’s a “TikTok song” just for the fact that it’s seen a huge streaming boost thanks to being repopularized by social media trends. It’s from 2010 and now has 2.5 million streams - the next song on the album has 5,000. I can’t imagine they saw that coming. For as long as we have that crazy app, this phenomenon will never cease to amaze me.
Featured Playlist:
In a recent effort to “listen to something new,” I stumbled upon this playlist I’d saved a while back but never really dived into. Carpark is the parent label for Toro y Moi’s imprint, Company Records - I’m a longtime fan and I give him credit for half the unique indie artists I’ve encountered over the years. The idea of this playlist being curated by the various tastes of company employees was dope to me, and naturally great inspiration for the type of community collaboration I’d eventually like to see from AMF. I don’t think we’ll be needing office space any time soon, but this playlist is fair game for anyone who needs to put 3,000 songs on shuffle and get to work.
…also w33kly was feeling a bit hip-hop heavy this month so this felt like a fair balance 🤘🏾😅🤘🏾
Featured Mix:
This one is a fun share. Christa p.k.a. CHVMELEON is an old colleague who has lately been having motion in the Brooklyn scene and cultivating a growing community of supporters. I missed her moving to the city a couple years ago, but I’m grateful she brought her elite music sensibility and special personality over here when she did. If anyone in NY wants to check out a set this summer, let me know and we’ll make plans. In the meantime - enjoy! 🫡🎧️
